Little Stories
A practice exploring the relationship between memory and material, through hand-built ceramics.
Clay carries memories. It remembers the earth it came from and the hands that shaped it. My work is where my memory meets its own.
Each piece begins in an experience. The feel of a sound, the texture of a stone, the shifting colours of sea and sky, a moment that won't let me go. I work through these places until memory becomes abstract, passing through clay.
Hand-building is central. It allows a pace slow enough for each surface to evolve through touch, observation, repetition. My glazes emerge the same way, from a dance between intention and chance.
Like memory, the result can't be fully controlled. I welcome what's unrefined, imperfect, alive.
Ultimately, the beauty of life.
Each piece is thus a small archive.
A record of my life.
In the end, I am a vessel, offering you a vessel.
Love upon love, YH
